IEEE award for Uwe Kraus, DJ8DW ------------------------------- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe E. Kraus, Fachbereich E, Chair of Communications at University of Wuppertal, is getting the "IEEE fellow" award. Worlds biggest society of engineers "Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers" is giving this honour to only the thousands part of its members each year for outstanding achievements in research and development having an influence on society. Prof. Uwe Kraus from Solingen, Germany, (AR call DJ8DW, president of AGAF, the german amateur TV society) is getting the award for his contributions to improvements of TV quality and digital television, i.e. development of flicker-free 100 Hz CRT TV sets at Philips, Eindhoven, research on the european terrestrial DTV standard DVB-T at the University of Wuppertal together with WDR Cologne (western Germany TV station) and development of the first working test receiver for the north american HDTV system ATSC. Prof. Kraus is also involved in coordination of several international IEEE conferences. The award will be handed over at the International Conference on Consumer Electronics, ICCE, in January 2010 in Las Vegas, USA.
