Digital ATV (Amateur Radio Television) Presentations from the ARRL/TAPR DCC 2009 Available on DVD Two presentations on Digital ATV from the ARRL and TAPR 2009 Digital Communications Conference are now available on DVD from ARVN:Amateur Radio//Video News. The talks are by Ken Konechy W6HHC and Robbie Robinson KB6CJZ from Orange, California, and Art Towslee WA8RMC from the ATCO group in Ohio. Ken, Robbie and Art describe the current state-of-the-art in digital ATV. Everyone knows that broadcast television went all-digital last year. Many hams think that digital ATV is out of reach both technically and financially. As Ken, Robbie and Art explain, DATV is available now with equipment from Europe. It's more expensive than analog ATV equipment, but not astronomically so. DATV features many of the advantages that digital has over analog in other modes and services. It's on the air now in Ohio (and Europe). The DVD with both talks (about 80 minutes total) is available for $15 from ARVN at: www.ARVideoNews.com (it's DVD-5). It's part of a six-DVD set covering 17 talks from the conference, and you may be interested in other aspects of digital communication as well: equipment design and construction, Software Designed Radio, AMSAT/ARISSat, packet and D-STAR networking, and advanced APRS. The web site has a 10-minute preview of talks from the conference (the DATV segment is at the 7 minute 37 second point). These talks can make a good presentation at any ham club meeting, though the combined program will be too long for most clubs (80 minutes). And you may play it over your ATV repeater!
